Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a veiled attack at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre as Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan visits Russia amid the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
Taking to Twitter, the former Congress chief shared various news headlines suggesting of China and Pakistan coming together and Beijing helping Islamabad to ally with Moscow. “This government’s strategic mistakes will prove to be very costly (sic), he tweeted.
Rahul Gandhi, who is fiercely critical of the Modi government’s foreign policy, had earlier this month accused the Centre of “bringing China and Pakistan” together.
Speaking in the Parliament, the Congress leader had stressed that the country has been surrounded by adversaries on all sides and is isolated in the region. “The strategic goal of India should have been to keep China and Pakistan separate. But what you have done is to bring them together. Do not underestimate what we are facing. This is a serious threat to India,” he had said.
On Thursday, Pakistan PM Imran Khan met with Putin. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and economic cooperation. Imran Khan’s ill-timed visit, the first such trip by a Pakistani PM in 23 years, aims to push for the construction of a long-delayed, multi-billion-dollar gas pipeline to be built in collaboration with Russian companies.
