5 Congress MPs may boycott Rahul Gandhi rally; ‘untrue’ says Venugopal

The Congress is bracing for another major crisis in Punjab ahead of the assembly election. According to sources, five MPs are planning to “defy the party’s senior leadership”. However, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal dismissed the reports.

They said that the MPs had planned to boycott Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s election campaign in Punjab.

Rahul Gandhi kicked off his mega-poll campaign in Punjab on Thursday, January 27. The sources said that the five MPs did not find Rahul Gandhi’s leadership “acceptable”.

However, playing down the reports of the ‘boycott’, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that they were just baseless rumors and were “not true”.

Meanwhile, Congress MP from Khadoor Sahib Jasbir Singh Gill skipped Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Amritsar on Thursday. He, however, said that he had informed the leadership about it beforehand and appealed to everyone to refrain from making assumptions.
